I’m Trish the floral designer and owner of Blue Mountains Floral Designs
Growing up in Woodford in the beautiful Blue Mountains, my fascination for flowers took hold of me from a young age, as I would wander around our sunny garden and get lost in the beauty of everything from weeds to pumpkins.
My passion hasn’t dimmed and the garden still acts as my inspiration as I still live & work in my studio on the same property with my new little family.
My upbringing can also be thanked for my incredibly strong views and passion about being ecologically thoughtful.
My mum, Grace is a stickler for recycling and composting and my Dad, John is a use-it- till-it- completely-shits-itself kinda guy and always considers what alternate use an item can have before binning it.
Living and working sustainably it is at the core of who I am and how I work,
and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Coming from a family full of artists and musicians, I was always encouraged to explore my creative side, and for as long as I can remember have been picking fresh flowers from the garden and dotting them around the house. I’m so incredibly thankful that I’ve been able to turn this passion into my livelihood and it’s still what gets me out of bed (really early on market days!) with a spring in my step, while keeping the creative fire burning in my belly.
It was no surprise to anyone when I went on to study floristry in 2005 and have worked in the bright and bustling wedding and floristry industries ever since.
Blue Mountains Floral Designs was born in 2012 after moving on from my previous life as a wedding and events planner for a large venue. I have, however, found my time in events to be incredibly useful in my career as a floral designer, as it gave me the know-how to plan and execute a perfect floral shindig for any wedding no matter the theme or venue.
My style is a balance between unruly and organic with a bohemian twist.
Although, I really do love mixing and matching more elegant styles to create a perfect, bespoke look for my brides and grooms. I particularly love intricate wiring of flower crowns and get lost in the jittery excitement of hanging an epic flower installation from the ceiling.
Weddings make me SO happy, there is so much raw and beautiful emotion put into a couples wedding day and I truly adore being a part of each and every one. I consider myself an eco-florist. Meaning that I aim to source as locally as possible, use sustainable materials and recycle, compost and up-cycle at every possible moment!
It’s a way of life to me, so it just comes naturally.
I also offer an upcycled flowers service (with your blessings), collecting the leftover wedding florals and re-gifting them to people who need a pick-me-up or a “thank you” for providing important services to our local community and prevent your wedding blooms from going to landfill.
I can even donate to a particular church, nursing home or special location of your choice!
I put my heart and creative soul into every piece I design for your wedding and I can’t wait to meet you! Please explore my work, and if you like what you see I really look forward to having a chat and starting out on your floral journey with you.
